Stick Guide
Flex, length, kick point, lie and curve — everything that decides how a stick feels in your hands. Use this guide to spec an IHT-18 or IHT-24 that fits the way you actually play.
Quick release in tight
Low kick · P28 or P90TM · flex −5
Heavy shot from the point
Mid kick · P02 or PRO21 · flex +5
Best all-round setup
Hybrid kick · P92 or P88 · flex = ½ body weight
Lightest possible build
IHT-24 24K layup · Senior 325–330 g
01
Start at roughly half your body weight in pounds, then adjust. Cutting a stick down adds roughly 3 flex per inch removed; extending it softens it. Prefer quick releases and shooting in tight? Drop a step. Load heavy one-timers from the point? Go up a step.
| Weight | Height | Flex | Stick size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 80 – 100 lb | 4'4" – 4'8" | 30 – 40 | Junior |
| 100 – 125 lb | 4'8" – 5'2" | 40 – 50 | Junior |
| 125 – 145 lb | 5'2" – 5'6" | 55 – 65 | Intermediate |
| 145 – 170 lb | 5'6" – 5'10" | 65 – 75 | Intermediate / Senior |
| 170 – 195 lb | 5'10" – 6'1" | 75 – 85 | Senior |
| 195 – 215 lb | 6'1" – 6'4" | 85 – 95 | Senior |
| 215 lb + | 6'4" + | 95 – 110 | Senior |
Cutting a stick shortens the lever: expect roughly +3 flex per inch removed. If you sit between two flexes, the softer one is easier to load and the stiffer one is more accurate on heavy shots.
02
Standing in skates, a stick between your collarbone and the tip of your nose suits most forwards; defencemen often go to the chin or nose for reach. Lie is the angle between shaft and blade — the whole blade should sit flat on the ice in your natural stance. Our sticks are built with a standard lie of 6, but can be customized to your style.
Forward — puck skills
Collarbone to chin
Tighter handling, faster release in close quarters.
Forward — all-round
Chin to nose
Balance of reach and control; the most common length.
Defence
Nose to brow
Extra reach for poke checks, gaps and point shots.
03
Fastest load
Energy stores just above the blade so the shaft loads in a fraction of a stride. Built for quick releases in tight, snap shots off the pass and players who shoot before goalies can set.
Most power
The bend sits mid-shaft and loads deeper, releasing more stored energy per shot. The choice for heavy one-timers, slap shots and point shots that need to get through traffic.
Balanced
A broader flex zone that loads quickly but still stores real power. If you shoot from everywhere and don't want to give anything up, this is the default.

Every pattern below is available on both the IHT-18 and IHT-24, with a square-round toe and a standard lie of 6. Standard curves are always available to order and have a quicker turnaround time. PRO curves are available, but turnaround times are slightly longer.

Classic heel curve with a square-round toe. Flat face keeps pucks down — great for sweeping wrist shots, big slap shots and defencemen who want puck control off the heel.

The all-round mid curve. Square-round toe, medium depth and a nearly neutral face — the safest first custom pattern and the easiest to shoot accurately from anywhere.

The most popular pattern in hockey. Deep mid-toe pocket and an open face that lifts pucks quickly — excellent for snap shots, backhands and picking corners in tight.

Deeper mid curve with a round toe. Cradles the puck for stickhandling and stays hard and flat on wrist shots — a favourite of playmaking centres.

Aggressive toe curve with a very open face. Built for toe drags and quick-release shots off the toe — the modern skill-forward pattern.

Between a P88 and P92. Slightly straighter than a P92 with an open face — big one-timers and heavy shots off the mid-blade with dependable accuracy.

A P92 heel blended into a P28 toe. Full mid-blade pocket for passing plus the flick and toe-drag feel of a toe curve — the best of both worlds pattern.

A P92 with a taller blade profile. Same quick lift, a little more control on passes and saucers.

A mid-toe curve with a slightly longer blade and open face — great for lifting pucks quickly, toe drags and shooting off the pass.
